Planetary Times app calculates unequal hours (true daily & nightly time intervals) and helps you in keeping track of the ruling planetary hour. Planetary hours calculation is an ancient astrological method to find out what is favorable for the current time being and what is not.

The app is meant for making the best use of time and also understanding the self, environment, and relations in real-time as well as in general. Here are some of its potential uses, enhanced with customizable notification capabilities: Planetary Hours Calculator, Cosmic Events & Astrological Data Calculator, Biorhythms Calculator, Congruence/Compatibility/Synastry Calculator, Attributes/Skills Calculator, Firdaria Calculator, Sunrise/Sunset Calculator, Hijri Calendar, World Clock.

Disclosure

  • This is an ad-supported freemium application. Users residing in the EU have to give consent to use it with personalized ads or purchase ad removal feature and go ad-free instead.

  • The app does not collect and store any identifiable user data on any server on its own.

    • It contacts ad servers indirectly, using Appodeal ad mediation. Since this platform handles everything through Admob (Google), these two are the only authorities which could technically trace personal data back to you, and fortunately they are both GDPR compliant.

    • It makes use of Firebase Analytics (Google) to collect user distribution/demographics, in-app user behavior and usage habits, etc. anonymously to improve overall app experience for everybody.

    • Should you have any concerns, please see Privacy Policy for details.

  • If you find ads disturbing for any reason, you may pay once to remove them. Purchase of ad removal has the following advantages:

    • No distractions, obstructions, and interruptions

    • No unnecessary data traffic

    • No ad trackers

    • More fluidity and responsiveness

    • More screen space

  • Some automation, such as querying the global geolocation service and importing profiles from a file, fall under premium features that are subject to credits. You may buy and renew credits via in-app purchases, which is encouraged but remains entirely optional.

Basic Usage

  • After you run the app for the first time, it will begin to show a notification with an icon in your status bar indicating current planetary hour. Icon is going to be tagged with a mark or task symbol if that time is either marked or has a task associated with it. Symbols for the planets are the following: Saturn ♄, Jupiter ♃, Mars ♂, Sun ☉, Venus ♀, Mercury ☿, Moon ☽.

  • There are a total of 8 tabs. These are; settings, daily planetary schedule (default tab), moon & planets, fingerprint/attributes, firdaria (life milestones), alerts, tasks, marks respectively. For individual functions available through these, see Features.

  • Alerts let you create alarm-like audible reminders. They can be set relative to any time, for any day.

  • Tasks let you create planetary objectives that you may want to remember. You can associate your periodic or one-time work with a planet and watch for its arrival for achieving maximum performance.

  • Marks let you tag specific day/hour combinations for emphasis. First symbol is for day, second one is for hour. Day rulers are marked by default. You might also want to mark your birth time.

  • It is a good idea to use marks for always recurring, general and important events, tasks for specific and detailed jobs, and alerts for one-off, must-do works. There is also a setting for auto creating alerts for marks you add.

  • If the app is unusable for some reason, please make sure you satisfy the system requirements.

App Behavior

General Remarks

  • Dates are in DD/MM/YYYY format and the calendar system in-use is proleptic Gregorian.

  • The 12-hour (am/pm) or 24-hour (military time) preference set at system level is honored.

  • Assuming location data is precise, and time and timezone settings of the device are set up correctly, planetary hours calculation is accurate to the exact minute (±30s), and zodiac related calculations are accurate to the exact degree (±0.05°).

  • During the creation of a new profile, choosing the right birth time is very important. When you don't have a clue about the time of birth, select either "day" or "night" to prevent incorrect resolution. And when you are sure about the birth hour but not the minute, you could experiment with different variations until you get it right. In the latter case, trying out XY:00, XY:30, and XY:59 for the relevance of attributes should suffice for this application.

Notification Arrangements

  • To mark a notification as read or to dismiss an alert, either click on it or press the Mark as Read option below it. That way you are informing the app you have actually seen it. Otherwise, it will keep coming periodically until it no longer applies to the current situation.

  • Clicking on a notification is going to reset currently selected profile and date/time/location before opening up the app.

  • Planetary transit notifications are redelivered each time a planet is either added to or removed from the list that was Marked as Read before.

  • Only major aspects are tracked to avoid overcrowding, inconvenience and misinformation. That is because minor aspects are not valid for long, and you would have to mark notifications as read much more frequently.

  • Clicking on an attribute type notification is going to take you to the app's fingerprint tab with the following temporary settings override:

    • Enabled: Personalize, Compare With Natal, Relative (Difference) View

    • Disabled: Natal (Character) View, Hide Average Values, Daily Average View, Hide Sections

    • To clear the effects, do any of the following: a) open and close the fingerprint settings drawer, b) change the current profile, date-time-location, or the tab, or c) restart the app.

  • To make better use of the background operation cycles, the new planetary hour notification can arrive up to 30 seconds earlier than the designated time.

Glancing Over (Time & Space)

  • Selecting a profile name -as opposed to querying a new location name- is not going to cost any credits except the DST check when necessary.

  • Quick selection arrows and the Time Machine do not check for DST change that might have occurred to save credits and improve response time. On the other hand, setting a new date/time via the dialog or using the Moon Event Scanner will enforce a DST check when it is deemed necessary, which will only cost a credit when the app is set to a foreign location (not HERE).

Relocation

  • Live location data is not updated automatically in the background by this app to save battery. "Auto-Locate" option checks for new location data obtained by other geolocation apps installed on the device and makes use of that instead. If the newer location data is found to be significantly different from the previous (>90 secs local time), altitude update may take place in the background depending on the setting.

  • Although unlikely, if you don't have any apps requesting location updates, you will need to update your location manually when you move around. You can do this using the geolocation button found under the settings tab. Pressing the "Refresh" button is going to create a new positioning request, completely ignoring previously gathered data.

  • Disabling the "Auto-Locate" option and specifying a manual default location will cause the app to ignore and override present geolocation data in every way and circumstance throughout the app, which includes the altitude setting; whether it is turned on or off.

Edge Cases

  • You may stumble upon the following problem if you know of someone born at the DST border. At the end of DST time when clocks are turned backward, there are two instances of the same time following each other, which results in a one hour gap. Since DST is automatically calculated and the new non-DST clock will trigger at the point of change, this may result in a planetary hour getting lost. To refer to this lost time, specify 00:59 instead of 01:00, 01:59 instead of 02.00 and 02:59 instead of 03.00 etc.

Shortcuts

  • Date/location selection button (bottom-left):

    • Long touching or double tapping will reset app to HERE & NOW.

    • Long touching on the right and left arrows will move the date by a week.

  • Profile selection button (bottom-right):

    • Long touching or double tapping will reset current profile to the default.

    • Long touching on the right and left arrows on the profile selection button will seek to the alphabetically first/last profile.

  • Fingerprint section control:

    • Touching on the name field will scroll to the beginning of that section.

    • Long touching or double tapping on the name field will collapse current section and seek to the next expanded one (if there is any).

  • Moon event scanner button:

    • Long touching will repeat your last action.

Troubleshooting - Notifications

Slight variations (<10 mins) in notification delivery are quite normal. This is a doing of the Android system to improve battery life. However, due to the nature of this app notifications are frequent, and your device may regard this behavior as spam and not let them through. In that case:

    1. First and foremost, make sure you are not restricting battery use for this app:

      • Make sure Optimize Battery Usage / Battery Optimization option is set to not optimized (uncheck app from the list) in the system battery menu.

      • Make sure Battery Saving Mode is turned off.

      • Navigate to Settings > Apps > Planetary Times and disable Battery Saver option if you see one.

      • Enable "Ignore battery optimizations and use punctual notifications" option in settings tab of the app.

      • {Android 9+} Make sure the app is not in the Restricted Apps list.

      • {Huawei, Xiaomi, Asus and Sony} Make sure you add this app to the Protected Apps / Autostart list. It may appear under a different name; check the system power menu thoroughly, if it has one.

    2. Next, see if you are allowing notifications by default:

      • Select this app from the app manager and toggle corresponding checkboxes there to allow notifications. If you see the option Set as priority, enable that also.

      • Make sure Do Not Disturb mode is either turned off or configured to silence only (not block).

      • Look for a Notifications menu in system settings and make sure they are allowed by default.

      • Look for a Data Saver/Restriction menu in system settings and make sure this app is exempt from it.

    3. Battery saver, memory booster, task manager and cleanup applications may interfere with the background process of this application. Make sure you don't have any of those or remember to add an exception for this app.

    4. Below are some manufacturer specific, additional settings to look for:

      • {Asus} Enable the following:

        • Device Settings > Power Management > Auto-start Manager > Planetary Times

        • Mobile Manager > Boost > Enable Super Boost > Protected app list > Planetary Times

      • {Xiaomi} Enable the following:

        • Device Settings > Apps/Security > Permissions > Autostart > Planetary Times

        • Device Settings > Passwords & Security > Privacy > Special app access > Battery optimization > All Apps > Planetary Times > Don't optimize

        • Device Settings > Security > Settings > Boost Speed > Lock Apps > Planetary Times

      • {Lenovo} Enable the following: Device Settings > Power Manager > Background app management > Allow auto-start > Planetary Times

      • {Huawei} Enable the following:

        • Device Settings > Battery > App launch > Manage Manually > Planetary Times

        • Phone Manager > Startup Manager > Planetary Times

        • Device Settings > Notification Center > Planetary Times > Allow Notifications & Priority Display

    5. If notifications are coming through periodically, but disappearing after some time: Press the Overview (Recent Apps / App Switcher) button (next to Home). From there, long touch on Planetary Times and select the padlock icon to prevent your device from killing this app's processes. You may need to repeat this process after an update. In that case; first unlock, then restart the device and lock again.

    6. {Xiaomi MIUI} The following is not recommended unless you are still having problems despite going through the above instructions: Disable MIUI Optimization found at the end of Developer Settings list (which needs to be enabled beforehand).

    7. If you have exhausted everything else here and had no luck, the problem is exclusive to your specific device. Try options below one by one, in the following order:

      1. Try hard resetting your device; turn it off, give it a few seconds and then turn it back on.

      2. Look for a software update in device settings. Install if there is one, then restart device.

      3. Needless to say, restricting ad display (either by adblock or blocking internet access) is not permitted. If this is the case (will be indicated on settings tab), the app will run in Limited Mode, bypassing any background work until you have purchased the Ad Removal package.

      4. Sometimes it is simply a matter of clearing the app data and cache, which you can do under the system's Apps list. Reinstall the app afterwards. Notice: All data is going to be deleted, including the saved profiles and remaining geolocation credits; make sure you backup profiles to be able to bulk import them afterwards.

      5. Switch to a different Android Launcher if you are not on stock Android.

      6. Advanced: a) Wipe Cache Partition, b) do a Factory Reset, or c) change ROM.

Troubleshooting - Payments

When you are using the app on multiple devices using the same Google Play account:

    • You only have to buy ad-removal once. Removing and installing the app again will not matter.

    • Geolocation credits are intended to be per device only and they are removed after an uninstallation. If you are granted any credits on another installation without any additional purchase, think of it as a gift.

If you are having issues:

    • Check with your bank to make sure your payment actually went through; sometimes they get rejected.

    • Make sure Google Play Store is up to date and Google Play Services app is not disabled and allowed to run in the background freely.

    • Purchases are per account basis. If you have switched your Google Play account, it may not show up on records. You can check this on Purchase History page of your Google Play account. Notice: Switching back and forth between Play Store accounts may result in loss of geolocation credits.

    • Payments are handled by Google Pay; app merely responds to the received data. In some rare buggy instances, Google Pay may not report purchase state back to the app. In that case:

      • Find Google Play Store and Google Play Services in installed Apps list found in system settings. Press Force Stop, then select Clear Cache/Data, restart the device, give it a couple of minutes, and finally open up the app and try again.

      • If the above procedure didn't work, try repurchasing the ad-removal item. If you have already paid, Google will not let you buy it again and your purchase state will be refreshed and reported back to the app. Afterwards, a simple restart should put everything into place. If you don't own the item on the other hand, then this will be your first actual payment. You have nothing to lose.
